Choosing a form saver
Miss having a Lazarus-style safety net?
Lifeboat brings a familiar idea to Chrome: keep a local copy of the words you type, so a lost form doesn't automatically mean rewriting it.
New protection, not old-draft recovery
Lifeboat is an independent Chrome extension, not a Lazarus update. It cannot open a Lazarus database or recover text that vanished before Lifeboat was installed and saving.
The part you'll recognise
You write a comment, support request or application. The site refreshes, your session ends, or the browser closes. If Lifeboat saved the text first, that local copy can still be available when you return.
When Lifeboat recognises a matching field that lost its text, it shows a small rescue card. Choose Restore to put the words back. You can also open its popup, find a saved draft, and use Copy when the original field has moved or disappeared.
What Lifeboat protects
- Typed text
- Ordinary text fields, comment boxes, and many rich editors on supported websites.
- Earlier wording
- Up to three versions of each field on the free plan, so you can look back at a previous draft.
- Recent work
- A seven-day saving window by default, with a 25-character minimum before saving begins.
- Your choice of sites
- Pause saving on a site. Coming in v1.0.2: delete a draft or a site's saved drafts, with an undo option.
It saves the text itself. It does not back up uploaded attachments, checkboxes, selected files or complete browser sessions. It also does not watch your clipboard history. Copying a saved draft is a recovery action you choose.
A local copy you can inspect
Drafts stay encrypted with AES-GCM in the Chrome profile on your device. Lifeboat has no draft cloud or telemetry, and you do not need an account for free rescue.
Password fields, and fields identified as payment or national-ID inputs, are excluded by field information such as type and labels. Ordinary writing boxes may still contain private information, so pause the site when you do not want its text kept. The popup lets you see and export your saved text.
Optional Pro licensing connects to Polar for activation and periodic validation, sending the licence key and organisation/activation identifiers. Draft text is never part of those requests. Full privacy policy →
Start with a safe check
Preserve anything still in Lazarus
Use your existing tool to copy or export old drafts you need before changing your setup. Lifeboat cannot import them.
Install Lifeboat for new writing
Use the manual sample check in the current version. Test Lifeboat, coming in v1.0.2, will add a sample test inside the extension.
Check your usual sites
Use harmless sample text in the editors that matter to you. Chrome internal pages and the Web Store cannot be captured; complex custom editors can also differ.
The rescue is free
Saving, restoring, copying and exporting drafts are free. Draft deletion, coming in v1.0.2, will also be free. Lifeboat Pro costs $3.99 once and adds four boat themes, retention from 3–30 days, 1–10 versions per field, a 1–200-character save minimum, and private saved-and-restored counts. There is no subscription.
