Lifeboat

The short version: Lifeboat saves the text you type into web forms so it can give it back when a page loses it. That text stays on your computer, encrypted. It is never sent anywhere — not to us, not to anyone. The extension makes no network requests while it works, and there is no account to create.

What Lifeboat stores

Text you type into form fields, text areas and editors on websites you visit
The address of the page and a label for the field, so your text can be offered back in the right place
Your settings: which sites are paused, your chosen theme, and your saved-text preferences
Your licence key, if you buy Lifeboat Pro

All of it lives in your browser's local storage on your own device. Saved text is encrypted at rest using AES-GCM.

What Lifeboat never stores

Passwords. Password fields are excluded in code, always.
Payment details. Card numbers, security codes and related fields are excluded.
National ID numbers and similar sensitive fields.

These exclusions are not settings you have to find and switch on. They cannot be turned off.

What leaves your device

Your saved text: never. Lifeboat has no server and no analytics.

There is exactly one network request the extension can make, and only when you choose to make it: if you buy Lifeboat Pro and enter your licence key, that key is sent to Polar, our payment provider, to check that it is valid. Polar receives the licence key only — never your saved text. Polar acts as merchant of record for the purchase and handles payment and tax; see their privacy policy.

How long it is kept

By default Lifeboat keeps the last 3 versions of each field for 7 days, then deletes them automatically. Lifeboat Pro lets you change that to anywhere from 3 to 30 days and 1 to 10 versions. Deleted means deleted — there is no copy elsewhere.

Your control

See everything saved for a site in the extension popup
Pause Lifeboat on any site with one tap; it then saves nothing there
Export your saved text as a file at any time
Remove the extension to delete everything it stored — nothing is left behind, because nothing was ever anywhere else

Children

Lifeboat is a general-purpose tool and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date below. Material changes to what Lifeboat stores or sends would also appear in the extension's update notes.
